Im Steven Spielberg and I was born in Cincinnati onDecember 18, 1947, notwithstanding I was mainly raised in NewJersey and Arizona. When I was 12 years old I used mydads 8mm camcorder and made a movie. I continued to hold in films with the camcorder for five more years until Iwent on a trip to Universal Studios. I was 17 years old andI broke external from the main tourist group to see the soundstages. I bumped into the head of Universals editorialdepartment, Chuck Silvers. We talked for about an hourand he wanted to see some of my 8mm films. When Ishowed them to him he said they were good but he couldonly wish me luck. So the next day I rate on a suit andborrowed my fathers suitcase and walked in the front gateof Universal Studios like I did it every day. One reason Igot away with this is because the guard thought I was theowners son. I bought some plastic name tags at a camerastore and I erect an empty office. indeed I put my name inthe building directory. Everyday that summe r I hung outwith directors, writers, and editors. After talking to all ofthese movie makers I found out that nobody really liked mymovies. The next fall I asked some of the executives atUniversal how I can get my films noticed. They said Ishould put my films on 16 or 35mm film. So I did. I made a20 minute movie about a male child and a girl hitch-hiking fromthe dessert to the Pacific. The day after it was shown atUniversal, Sidney Sheinberg, the head of Universals T.V.production department, gave me a seven year contract towork on T.V. series. The offset printing few years of the contractwere fun, but after a while I didnt want to direct T.V.shows. In 1971 I got a chance to make my first real movie.It was Called Duel and it was about a salesman who washarassed by a truck driver. Even though the movie didntmake much bills and wasnt popular, it was my firstmovie and I had a lot of fun. During the next 10 years Idirected 4 of the top 10 movies ever made, including Jaws, closure Encou nters of the Third Kind, Raiders of the LostArk, and E.T. which is number one. E.T.- The ExtraTerrestrial made $720 million dollars worldwide in thetheaters and over a billion dollars total with video sales. many other movies I directed were, Indiana Jones and the
